Motivation: How to Take Back Your Life

Lately I’ve been reflecting on the concept of motivation and what drives people to make transformative changes in their lives.

Getting My Life Back After Becoming a Mom

Several years ago, during a period of feeling down and depressed, I yearned for a significant shift. My days were clouded by extended sleep. I lacked enthusiasm for work (despite my prior passion), and I had an unexplained anger towards the world.

To kickstart a positive transformation, I decided to focus on the areas of my life that were most negatively impacted. First, I started with my eating habits. Next, I sought guidance from a fitness expert friend and embarked on a rigorous meal plan and workout routine. The goal was to revitalize my body and restore its natural energy levels.

Although I achieved my initial objective and felt a surge of vitality, I also became overwhelmed by the strict meal plan. I received some unexpected outcomes that were not in alignment with what I was initially seeking.

Consequently, I modified my approach to health and fitness, successfully rebooting my body. I resolved to channel the same level of focus towards nurturing my spirit and strengthening my relationship with God.

Renewing my Joy and Finding Peace

I retraced my steps to a time in my life when I felt immense joy and peace. I discovered that maintaining a dedicated daily prayer and Bible study routine had made all the difference.

Each morning, without fail, I began my day by praying to God and expressing gratitude for both the blessings and the challenges. I followed this prayer with time spent studying a daily scripture and reading passages from the Bible. My intention extended beyond merely reading the entire Bible; I aimed to truly comprehend its teachings.

This practice became so ingrained in my routine that I successfully studied the entire New Testament. My study of the Old Testament began promptly, driven by a strong determination to reach my goal.

However, during another tumultuous period several months later, my daily prayer and devotional time gradually became less frequent. This caused a noticeable change in my outlook on life and my attitude towards others.

This prompted me to reflect on my motivation during that transformative time. I realized that I was driven by a desire to live a life of gratitude that would please God. I also desire to serve as an example of His love for His children.

And now, my motivation remains the same: to lead a life that pleases God. I aim to embrace gratitude for all things, even trials. I believe that everything bestowed upon me by God is ultimately for my benefit.

Inspiration for my Motivation

My motivation is to lead by example, spreading love to everyone, including those who may appear unlovable. Just as Christ continues to love me even in my most flawed states, I aspire to extend that same grace towards others.

Along my journey, I’ve discovered some inspiring nuggets of wisdom that keep me motivated. Here are a few that you can use for your own motivation as you strive for peace and mental wellness:

  • “Your circumstances may be challenging, but they won’t remain so if you envision an ideal and strive to achieve it.” – James Allen
  •  “Life isn’t about mastery; it’s an adventure meant to be experienced.” – Sue Fliess
  • “Don’t become so fixated on your body’s appearance that you forget to appreciate its capabilities.” – Valerie Monroe
  • “I realized life was passing me by because I was obsessing over what I couldn’t do, instead of embracing what I could.” – Beth Levine
  • To pity myself rather than celebrate my talents, strengths, and opportunities would be ungrateful.” – Beth Levine
  • I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. –Philippians 4:13 NKJV

Pursuing Mental Wellness

As we continue to reflect on motivation and the pursuit of mental wellness, I invite you to draw inspiration from the journey I’ve shared.

Let this post serve as a catalyst, igniting the flame of motivation within your hearts and minds. Recognize that each one of us has the power to embark on a path of self-improvement and inner transformation.

Take a moment to contemplate what motivates you—what drives you to seek a life of wellness and fulfillment. It could be a desire for greater joy and peace. Or maybe it is a longing to make a positive impact on the lives of others. Whatever it may be, hold onto that motivation tightly, for it will be your guiding light during challenging times.

Start Small but with Intention

Embrace self-care and prioritize the aspects of your life that need nurturing. Whether it’s physical health, emotional well-being, or spiritual growth, remember that every step forward is significant.

Even the smallest acts of self-love and self-improvement accumulate into a powerful force that propels us towards our goals. Along the way, find your own sources of inspiration. Perhaps it is a favorite quote, a cherished scripture, or a personal mantra that resonates with your soul.

Seek guidance from those who have walked similar paths. Surround yourself with a supportive community that uplifts and encourages you. Remember, this journey is yours, unique and beautifully individual. Embrace the moments of growth, and be gentle with yourself during setbacks. Celebrate each milestone, however small it may seem. Every milestone signifies progress on the road to a more fulfilling and balanced life.

I encourage you to take the first step today. Always remember that you have the strength and capacity to improve your well-being. Embrace the challenge, trust in the process, and know that you are not alone on this journey. May your pursuit of mental wellness be filled with grace, resilience, and a steadfast motivation that propels you towards a life of joy, peace, and flourishing.
